Cardiff soars into world’s top one per cent of unis

We’re 278 places ahead of Swansea

Clever Cardiff has launched itself into the top 125 unis in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings.

First ranked fifth in the entire country for Research Excellence and now rated 122nd in the world, Cardiff has conquered a top 125 position for the last two years running.

For global academia we are top 50 for Architecture, Psychology, and Geography – if you like erecting buildings, mind games, and getting down and dirty, Cardiff is the uni for you.

Admiring the splendour

Not only do we own the land with these courses but when it comes to Pharmacy, Business and Management, Accounting and Finance, Communications and Media Studies we are also comfortably top 100.

Overall our uni ranks a global 2:1 (65.00), achieving firsts with our beloved International Students (85.7), International Faculty (71.7), Employer Reputation (73.3) , as well as cruising a 2:1 in Academic  Reputation (63.8) and Faculty Student (66.8).

Although at 9am your lecturer might not be your favourite person in the entire world our faculty is out – fricking – standing.

Two Noble Prize winners, 12 Fellows of the Royal society, 11 fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering, five fellows of the British Academy, 22 Fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences, four Academicians of the Academy of Social Sciences and five Queen’s Anniversary Prizes.

Working hard

Cardiff University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan, said: “While rankings will not divert us from our main purpose of research excellence and high-quality teaching, the University’s recent progress in the QS world rankings is pleasing and a reflection of everybody’s hard work.

“We must now build on this success if we’re to achieve our aim of securing a top 100 place by 2017.

“A major part of this progress will be the University’s continuing investment in world-class facilities, including our £300m innovation campus, to ensure we continue to attract the best staff and students to Cardiff.”

A complicated piece of machinery

We also dominated Swansea, who are languishing behind with a rating of 35.0 and a final QS Ranking of 400.
