Varsity Victory for Cardiff Rowers

Cardiff Uni rowers sink Swansea in Varsity

Rowing their way to victory, Cardiff Uni have come out on top, taking a clean sweep at the Varsity boat race.

Held last Saturday (20th April), hundreds of students took to the River Taf to watch the Cardiff and Swansea teams battle it out in the first of many Varsity events; pitting the welsh rivals in a brutal tournament of pride.

Rowing from Penarth Road Bridge to Cardiff Bay, the races began at 12:25pm, finishing at 5pm with the medal ceremony.

With the sun shining, the crowds were treated to four close races, starting with the women’s novice team, followed by the respective men’s and women’s senior races, finally culminating in the men’s senior final.

Winning by only two lengths, the race was close throughout. CURC’s senior men’s team fought to the end, defeating Swansea in a well deserved victory.

The 8th annual boat races proved to be the making of CURC’s women’s and men’s novice and senior teams, calling for a messy celebration.

Following the race, the team took to Tiger Tiger, where they drank to their champion title, starting Cardiff on a high for Varsity week.
