Government takes pints from students

Cardiff’s 2014/15 freshers will be 37 pints worse off than you lot.

This year’s Cardiff freshers will be 37 pints better off than those starting in 2014/15.

Maintenance loans and grants for English students will rise by 1% for the 2014/15 uni intake, which is LESS the rate of inflation.

The UK’s inflation rate is 2.7%, meaning that the maximum student loan for the average student in 2014/15 will be £5,555 – just £55 more than this year’s intake will get.

In total, English students will be £93.50 shortchanged – and Welsh students have yet to hear about their fate. With the average pint in Cardiff costing £2.50, this equates to:

• 37 pints

• 623 packets of Tesco Everyday Value Chicken Flavour Instant Noodles

• One of K.Middy’s LK Bennett nude shoes.
