The season awaits…

The dark nights are setting in and there’s a constant drizzle that blankets over Cardiff as we move deeper into the dreary British autumn.  There is however, one ray of sunshine that we can all look forward to in the coming weeks. The lads are back and eager to carry on where they left off. Yes it’s that time of year again; it’s time for the rugby season.

After a highly successful season last year, Cardiff say farewell to a number of stalwarts of the club, none more so than former First team captain, Jake Cooper-Woolley, who has managed to break into the Cardiff Blues and follow a career as a professional. With that said, the start of the season is very much a phase of rebuilding the squad and developing the solid foundation of core players that still remains with individuals such as Ross Wardle and Arthur Ellis, who have both experienced top flight rugby over the summer with Newport Gwent Dragons and the Ospreys respectively.

With four teams on offer at Cardiff University, all are looking for league triumphs this year, and of course, with the season culminating in the annual Varsity match, Cardiff look to retain that sacred trophy against our strongest rivals, Swansea.

Pre-season is currently under way as the teams prepare for the season ahead and integrate the first years into the squads and as members of CURFC.  A couple of fixtures have been announced against Cardiff RFC and Glamorgan University taking place this week,  so make sure you follow the Tab as we support the lads throughout the upcoming season.
