Cambridge SU moves to new building

In a Facebook post earlier today (30/03), Cambridge SU announced its intent to move from 17 Mill Lane, where it has been based for the last six years, to the University Centre.

The SU, which is the representative body for the almost 25,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students at the university, will be moving into its new “home” from 11 April 2022.

They plan to consult students over “what you want to see in the lounge.”

The new building will house two spaces: an SU lounge, where students can “work, socialise and hold events,” and offices for SU staff. 

Building work is ongoing – but the SU plan to release photos of the space next week. 

They have also released a floor plan, which shows a meeting room, hot-desking space, a tea and coffee station, sofas, and a reception where students will be able to buy gowns, pick up free sexual health supplies, and make general inquiries. 

The building was an important issue in the recent Sabbatical Officer Elections, where both undergraduate presidential candidates promised updates to the space (including the introduction of a cafe and a bar) in their manifestos.

During the move, SU services – including the sale and hire of academic gowns, printing and binding services, and sexual health supplies – will be unavailable. This will last from the 4th-8th of April.
