Asymptomatic COVID-19 cases in Cambridge continue to fall for the second week in a row

There’s been a 0.1 per cent drop in positive cases from last week

38 students at the University of Cambridge tested positive for COVID-19 out of the 5,494 samples received, in the week from 26th to 1st November. This is a 0.1 percent drop from the previous week, where 39 out of 4,660 tests were positive.

The figures from the fourth week of the university’s asymptotic screening programme reveal that 1 in 145 students (0.7 per cent) living in college accommodation have asymptomatic Covid-19. Only 24 tests out of all those collected were ruled as “void”.

The number of students screened has increased yet again reaching 5,494, up from 4,660 last week, a rise of 834 students. The percentage of positive test results has fallen consecutively over the past three weeks from 0.9 per cent in the week 12th-18th October, 0.8 per cent in the week 19th-25th October, and now to 0.7 per cent.

The current number of students who have agreed to take part in the programme has also risen and as of the end of last week, was at 12,383 students. This equates to 80 per cent of the eligible student body.

A statement from the university has said that “the numbers across Cambridge as a whole from the asymptomatic programme appear to be trending in the right direction”.
