EXCLUSIVE: Strawberries & Creem 2015 headliner revealed

It’s a biggie

Cambridge genre grime Live Music News

On Thursday 11th June, Strawberries & Creem Festival plays host to none other than the king of Grime: Skepta.

With his new album, ‘Konnichiwa’, set to be released some time this month, Skepta is coming to Cambridge as the main headliner of S&C’s six headline acts, this June.

It’s been a big couple of weeks for the Tottenham MC – he performed alongside Kanye West at the BRITS on the 25th February, and supported him at West’s surprise gig at Koko London on 3rd March. Watch a clip of his performance below:

In addition to his performances with Kanye West, Drake referenced Skepta on his recent single with Lil’ Wayne, ‘Used To’, and there have even been strong rumours that he will touring alongside Drake this coming summer.

The head of prestigious grime act, ‘Boy Better Know’ (the grime music collective comprising JME, Wiley and others), Skepta usually performs with some of his cohort at gigs. So we’ll have to wait until 11th June to see who’ll be accompanying him at S&C.

The man himself

Since Dizzee Rascal’s debut in 2003 with his Mercury Prize winning LP, ‘Boy in Da Corner’, grime’s mainstream popularity has taken something of a back seat in the last few years. But with his allegiances to Kanye West and Drake, as well as the excitement of a new album, Skepta is set to reignite the genre back into the mainstream in 2015.

In the meantime, stay tuned for more info on the S&C Facebook page, and the event website, http://www.strawberriesandcreem.com/.
