Cambridge alumni in promise auction

A multisensual gay induction immersion course is among the lots in a Facebook charity auction organized by former Cam students.

Cambridge alumni are offering to knit hats and clean each other’s houses in an innovative Facebook promise auction.

The charity fundraiser – which runs until Christmas Eve – sees friends bidding on Facebook for prizes donated by others.

Pledges include tickets to Arsenal matches, a ride in a Ferrari and a multisensual gay induction immersion course.

Organizer and former Tab columnist, Tom Davenport told The Tab he aimed to raise £500  for repairs to a Ugandan school.

He said: “I hope it will cause entertainment, capture the generous festive spirit and raise some money for the school – I was secretly hoping for £750, but it looks like we might break that.”

“We are not aiming for a flash charity auction where people give vast amounts of money – we are all young and that would be completely unrealistic.

“As much as anything, this is an experiment – a new format which could be quite fun, effective and easy to replicate.”

That target looks set to be broken – after four days the total stands at £625.

The highest bid so far is £75, for a meal for four cooked by Newnham legend Hadden Fray-Smith.
