As a result of overwhelming public demand, The Tab has decided to end the debate over how to spell everyone’s favourite mid-week haunt.

‘Cindies’ is the staple spelling in humoursly entitled facebook groups (‘CINDIES+LADS+LAUGHS’), ‘Cindy’s’ actually makes grammatical sense and ‘Cindis’ and ‘Sindy’s’ are really just in there to make up the numbers and prevent this fudge of a survey from fully acknowledging its own absurdity. So, in the red corner…

Cindy’s

Why?: Because before it became ‘Ballare’s’, the club was called ‘Cinderella’s’ and “the singular possessive form is therefore appropriate” in the words of The Tab’s grammar-Nazi Phoebe Luckhurst (she needs to get a ‘Life’…geddit?).

Who calls it that?: Jesus and Downing JCRs in their freshers guides, the guy who made The Tab’s ‘Weekly Photos From Cindy’s and Fez’ image before realising the gravity of his decision.

Google results: 430,000 (probably completely and utterly irrelevent).

Cindies

Why?: Because its, er, really popular? Almost every single reference on facebook refers to ‘Cindies’. As does the title of a series of increasingly repetitive films produced by a financially troubled rival of ours.

Who calls it that?: Most people, including Emma University Challenge hero Alex Guttenplan.

Google results: 20,400

Sindy’s

Why?: Because that is what those irritating plastic dolls are called. And people sometimes spell it like this on Facebook. Probably.

Who calls it that?: People who hit the wrong key when trying to type one of the other options

Google results: 4,350,000

Cindis

Why?: Because sometimes the lads from the Countrywide Integrated Noncommunicable Diseases Intervention programme come down for a cheeky ‘No Risk Tuesdays’. Which admittedly isn’t a compelling reason.

Who calls it that?: Probably no-one.
