Catz Skinned, Girton Grimace

The newcomers struggled in their opening fixtures (College Rugby Tables and Results).

With Division 1 regulars Downing and Jesus dishing out nearly 100 points between them in their Tuesday fixtures against newly promoted Girton and Catz repectively, heavy doubts surround their ability to fight for the right to remain in the upper echelons of college rugby.

The next few weeks will authoritatively spell out whether first division fans can hope for a fight or two months of feeble walkovers:

Jesus will be the first likely contenders to challenge St. John’s, last seasons winners who have long held an iron fist over division one. This fixture is always exciting and is often accompanied by a carnival atmosphere, with such witty classics as “Jesus can’t play rugby, cos he’s only got 12 mates.” (Not 11? Surely Judas Escariot doesn’t qualify as a mate?) .

The scorelines in Trinity’s fixtures against Girton and Catz will be telling to see if they match up to the other first Division teams, moreover St. John’s matches against these teams are a potential for cricket scores, especially if they both manage to put out a full scrum.

Results  and league tables from all of this weeks matches follow below.
