Oxford Bus Company strikes threaten to disrupt students’ travel

Plan for difficulties in travel on the 2nd and 6th of March

Brookes students were emailed yesterday amidst fears there may be trouble in getting the usual buses around Oxford. This is in retaliation to strikes over Christmas pay for drivers.

Claims are circulating that drivers were only paid extra for working three bank holidays over the Christmas period, when the union had requested five.

Due to a series of unsuccessful negotiations, the Oxford Bus Company workers have chosen to strike in protest.

The company has apologised on the Oxford Bus Company website for any ‘inconvenience’  travellers may experience.

Although the email sent by Brookes Communication appears to suggest there will not be too much trouble involving the U1, U5X and U5, the official Oxford Bus Company website presents a less clear picture regarding the timetable changes.

Be aware that you may have to find alternative methods of transport on Thursday and Monday.
