A rugby fresher was sent to Scotland by teammates for missing Sunday Funday

He went all the way to Edinburgh as punishment

Oxford Brookes rugby team sent a fresher to Scotland for missing their annual Sunday Funday, forcing him to a night of heavy drinking and punishment with the Edinburgh Uni rugby team.

Fresher Jonny, who studies International Relations and Politics at Brookes, was subjected to an 11 hour coach ride to Edinburgh with £40 allowance and no phone charger, all because he was too hungover from a day out in Twickenham on the Saturday before Sunday Funday.

The first year was supposed to attend the club day with three other freshers, however when he did not turn up, the older rugby boys decided he must “have some time to think about his actions.”

According to the rugby boys, Sunday Funday is an “internal rugby club day for selected freshers to enjoy themselves in a confidential way.”

Freshers had to attend the event in black tie and take part in special challenges.

Fourth year Biomed student and Prop, Will, said: “Little Jonny went to Twickenham the day before his Sunday Funday which he was meant to attend with three other freshers.

“The other three turned up, Jonny did not as he was drunk in London the night before.

“Time went by and we thought it was appropriate for Jonny to have some time to think about his actions.”

At the end of this period of reflection, the boys decided it was time for Jonny to take a sojourn to Edinburgh.

We spoke to Jonny to find out about what went down on his night away. Carry on reading if you need anymore proof that the rugby boys are wild.

Jonny’s 11 hour coach journey up to Scotland left at 8:00am. He was given a measly £40 to spend and wasn’t allowed his phone charger for the trip.

The fresher was picked up at Edinburgh bus station by the boys of Edinburgh Uni RFC who were to be his hosts for the night.

Upon arrival in Edinburgh, the Winger was immediately greeted by a large bottle of VK and a straw.

Expecting the worst, but hoping for the best, Jonny was taken to to one of the boys’ flats where he was kindly given food – and large quantities of drink.

The flat in question was then, to put it simply, “destroyed.” The rugby fresher’s eyebrows were then groomed and shaved, and so began the night out.

Jonny said: “It’s a bit vague after leaving their flat I’ll be honest, but on the night out it was just a lot of me buying drinks.”

One of the highlights for the poor fresher was being given a club tie in the club smokers.

When the troupe returned to the flat, Jonny made a bid for his phone, but then just got “savagely beaten” instead all in the name of lad banter.

More booze was consumed so Jonny could end his night away on a high.

The next day, he was scheduled to get on a bus back to Oxford at 9am on what can only be described as a “savage” hangover. He arrived back in Oxford at 9pm.

After his weekend of debauchery, we asked how he was feeling. Proving that it’s all just craic, Jonny said: “It’s all a good laugh at the end of the day.

“Twickenham was a class weekend, but I feel I let my fellow fresher’s down in the Sunday Funday.”
