City centre might be getting an ‘Oxford Eye’

Our own version of the London Eye

Oxford is known for its cultural history, academia and medieval architecture but there are proposals for a modern feature to be added to city’s skyline.

As a city, we might be getting an “Oxford Eye”; essentially our own version of the capital’s famous tourist attraction, the London Eye.

A Ferris Wheel would add to the skyline

Adding the modern, perhaps slightly tacky, feature is a proposal with the intention of giving local sightseers and tourists the ability to view the City of Dreaming Spires from above.

Matt Peachy, Oxford City Council’s economic team manager told The Oxford Mail: “Oxford is a city of Dreaming Spires and the question is whether there is an opportunity beyond what is already there to appreciate those views.

“There are a number of issues and constraints that would need to be looked at first before something like this could be realistically delivered, but it is worth looking at it if it generates interests”.
