Everything you have to do in Oxford at least once

The Oxford bucket list

As far as hometowns go, you don’t get much better than Oxford. Sure, there’s a load of cultural stuff people say you should do, but see if you’ve checked any of these things off your Oxford bucket list:

Go punting

But never volunteer to be the one actually punting.

Wait in the queue for Ben’s Cookies and ask for the broken bits

Because they’re 99p and so delicious.

Go to MNB and spend the entire night in the smoking area

It’s been argued that the smoking area is actually better than the night out.

Walk through the Clarendon centre as a shortcut

From Queen Street to Cornmarket, or Cornmarket to Queen Street. How often do you actually go in there for the shops?

Get a piercing in Tiger Lily

Pretty much a right of passage.

Try every type of Fudge from The Fudge Kitchen but not actually buy any

“I’ll be back later.”

Take a photo on the Varsity rooftop

As soon as it opened a few years ago, our news feeds have been filled with candid rooftop photos of people sipping Mojitos looking over Oxford’s skyline. It’s pretty beautiful, to be fair.

Wait for a friend on Cornmarket

“Hey, where should I meet you?”

“Cornmarket?”

“Perfect.”

“I’m just outside Boots.”

Have a deep chat with Old Man Bridge

The man, the enigma. Where did he come from? What does he do? Where does he predrink? Does he get free entry? What is his ten year plan? So many questions, so little time.

Go inside the Bodleian Library or Radcliffe Camera

If you’re a student or doing a research project you’re allowed in, but you have to recite an oath before.

Spend more time in Gloucester Green taxi rank than you did on your night out

For whatever reason, getting a taxi from Gloucester Green is never a quick process. Maybe you’re friends got into a fight again, maybe your waiting for your friends before you get a taxi back, or maybe you’re just taking your sweet time enjoying your cheesy chips on the bench. Either way, it’s a gathering place where you can catch up with people who were in one of the other three clubs in Oxford that night.

Get drunk in uni parks

Maybe one for the younger generation, but everyone’s spent that one Saturday drinking Smirnoff Ice in the park before their parents pick them up. And there’ll always be one who jumps in the river, too.

Go on the Oxford Story ride

RIP.

Have pre-drinks in Four Candles

As soon as the Red Lion was rennovated, Four Candles was made the place to go before any night out. Going to get a round will take about half an hour, mainly because of the seven people you bump into on the way.

People watch from the Cornmarket Starbucks

Whether your waiting for a friend or just passing time before you get your bus home, you’ll see more than you could ever imagine from that upstairs window.

Get Trevor from Bridge to remember your name

“Sweetheart” doesn’t count.

Go to Plush after a night out

Because where else is open after 3am in Oxford?
