You may think that all the extra stress of rehearsals and training have added to the stress that uni life can bring but, according to new research, its not all bad.

A new study done by the Psychology Faculty at Brookes studied over 350 participants with regard to ensemble singing, playing sports and solo singing and it is ensemble members that come out on top. Take that, rugby chlamydiots.

According to Nick Stewart, the lead researcher who did the study while doing his Masters (go figure), this is mostly to do with the fact that you’re all working in unison towards a common goal (most likely not being flat.) When achieved, this ‘collective ensemble spirit’ positively affects the members of the group.

Although its unknown what other factors are influencing the outcome.

Furthermore, the ensemble-group were more likely to class their collective experience as more psychologically meaningful than the members of the sports team. Take from that what you will.
