A car has crashed through a shop on Cowley Road

it happened about 7am this morning

A car crashed into a furniture shop along Cowley Road this morning around 7am.

Eyewitnesses reported that they saw a man and a woman grabbing things out of their car before leaving the scene.

Police and over 20 firefighters were called to the scene to deal with the crash at the local shop on the junction of Chapel Street. The shop is owned by Christine Kannan and Mohammed Nawaz.

Omar, the son of the owners and helper at the shop part time told the Oxford Mail : “This is a big shock for us all and we are now counting the cost.

“It will cost tens of thousands of pounds on the insurance to repair the shop and we will probably be closed for at least a month.”

Cowley Road is a 20mph zone but the car must have been going a lot faster than that.

It’s lucky there were no pedestrians around at the time because it was early on a Sunday morning – it if had been a weekday it could have been very different.’
