Five storey new student accommodation to be built in Headington

Headington residents are not happy

A new five storey student accommodation block in Headington has been given the go ahead by Oxford counsellors, despite residents concern about what will happen to their neighbourhood.

The student halls, titled Beech House, is to be built on the edge of Latimer road and London Road.

They will accommodate up to 167 students.

With the high demand for student housing at Brookes, the development is welcomed by students who will be able to live close to the main campus buildings.

Originally, the plans were refused, but counsellors have had a change of heart as it’s been confirmed that the development will now be going ahead.

Students will be living close to campus

Residents in the surrounding area have expressed concerns about the size of the building, and safety issues, as it backs onto Headington Preparatory School.

But the council have assured residents that students will not be able to see into the school building, as some believed this could have caused safety issued.

Four homes within the area will be knocked down to make way for the new student halls of residence which again, has angered residents.
