Brookes has fined us over £40k in the past year

One was for having an unauthorised car on campus

Last year, over 10,000 fines were received by students from the university, the total amount of which adding up to a whopping £40,314.

Repeat offenders were charged £200 for misdeeds ranging from having banned items in examinations to having an unauthorised car on campus.

Please stop we have no money left

Good news is these figures were drastically reduced from the previous two years.

In 2013 the total amount of the fines given out to students was just shy of £100k at £96,947.

These figures are anticipated to drop even further starting from next year with the SU president Andrew Person vowing to abolish library fines in favour of a revised system.

He said: “financial penalties are of different consequences to people depending on your money situation. They’re out of date and not even profitable so it’s time to look for a better solution.”
