There’s some odd new artwork in the JHB

You probably just don’t get it

“Resounding”, a new Annie Cattrell sculpture will be suspended from forum ceiling.

At the beginning of this week, Brookes students diligent enough to be in the library were inconvenienced with the work to begin to erect a new piece of art work in the forum.

A section of the forum was cordoned off, as the sculpture – which looks a bit like a cowpat with dangly bits – was secured to the ceiling of the forum.

The John Henry Brookes Building, oddly reminiscent of a massive bar code, is set to be further enhanced by the new piece of art which is supposed to “represent the ambition to educate students for lives of consequence.”

When finished, “Resounding” is expected to illuminate the forum with a spectrum of blue lights which are supposed to reflect off pieces of glass hanging from the rippled structure on the atrium.

Reactions to the sculpture were initially resoundingly underwhelming, as many people were split between slight curiosity and total indifference.

Brookes students and sometime art critics were more than happy to share their sage thoughts on the artwork.
