Are Shannen and Anastasia Brookes’ quirkiest dressers?

Publishing second year Shannen is always up for experimenting with new trends as well as sporting timeless classics.

She says: “I wouldn’t say I have a particular style, but I wear what I want. I pull things out of my wardrobe and see what works and feels right, and I’m always willing to try new things, just as long as it’s ‘me’.

“You can’t beat black and I’m attracted to minimal aesthetics. Anybody who knows me knows I only own one pair of flats and they’re for work. I don’t like practical shoes.”

Her fashion over function approach is evident with her killer studded boots, a staple piece of her wardrobe. However it appears the cost of Shannen’s look does not come cheap, with her shoes and bag reaching a combined price of £449 – or a month’s rent.

Inspired by the effortless style of Kate Moss and Ashley Olsen, Shannen told The Tab: “Kate is a whirlwind of leather, studs and she’s always got killer heels and an attitude. Ashley’s a chameleon of fashion who loves experimenting with styles such as boho, grunge and chic street.”

Anastasia

Japanese student Anastasia represents a very specific type of style known as gyaru. She explains: “It’s basically a style for girls and originates from Tokyo. It’s based on post-war Japan, where the women we quite oppressed and felt like they wanted to break out and express themselves, so the style is all about self-expression and creativity. I’m a really big internet shopper so I import a lot of my clothes from Japan, but I also find bits and pieces off the high street as well.”

Dramatic accessories are an essential part of Anastasia’s look, and the statement belt that she wears is fundamental to her wardrobe.

However, clothing is not the only thing important to the gyaru style, and Anastasia says she needs more than just clothes to complete her look.

She said: “Makeup and hair bring the whole look together. I probably spend a good hour just doing my makeup, and the same on my hair. You can’t just have one part of the look and not the rest. It’s the same with accessories – I like my belt because it stands out.”
