Student numbers rise at Brookes

But is it all too good to be true?

There has been a 20 per cent increase in applicants to Brookes over the last two years.

Figures from UCAS show that in 2013 the university accepted 4,655 applicants, 21 per cent more than in 2011.

However the news should be taken with a pinch of salt. Those who applied in 2011 were the first to do so under the new tuition fee scheme  so lower numbers were to be expected. Now that the shock of £9,000 a year has died down the application numbers are back up.

The new students will get the full use of the new buildings

But on the bright side Brookes now sits at number 35 in the 2014 Guardian University Guide, a massive 13 places higher than last year’s 48th place. Could we soon break the top 30?

In September The Tab reported that Brookes is now in the top 400 universities in the world. It seems as if our soaring popularity is pretty much unstoppable.

In further good news our rise in student numbers gives us an edge over our neighbours. Oxford University student numbers actually fell over the same period from 2,695 to 2,670.
