The Changing Face of Clems (Again)

Clems forced to cover up graffiti style paint job.

The owner of our beloved Clems nightclub has had to alter the graffiti-style exterior after several complaints from the city council.

Originally the club’s name was painted in large letters which exceeded the maximum height the council allow, by 75cm. Students returned in September to cartoon characters masking the letters but the new designs angered both neighbours and council members who said it was “not in keeping within the surrounding area.”

After covering up part of the ‘graffiti’ earlier this term manager Bruno Garcia has now revealed he is repainting the entire front in plain blue.

This decision has attracted support from users on twitter with @DuncanScoot likening the prior artwork to a ‘naff ghost train from the 1990s’ and @bevclack describing it as ‘sub-Banksy’. Opinion however is split after Oxford-based historian Estelle Lovatt defended the mural.

Mr Garcia went on to say: “We had to do what we had to do – we just want to make sure everyone is happy.”

What do you think? Any die-hard Clems fans outraged at the defilement of this iconic club attraction? Or was it only a matter of time?
