The University of Bristol leaps 16 places in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings

This is the best ranking that the university has received in five years


The University of Bristol leaps 16 places upward in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023 which is the best ranking that the university has received in five years. 

The results were released today and reveal Bristol to be the 76th best university in the world, up from its position as 92nd in 2021. The total amount of universities included is 1,799 across 104 countries which is the most extensive list to date. 

Bristol University has received the status of the ninth best in the UK with Oxford coming in first for the seventh year in a row. 

The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023 was released last month (16 of September) and Bristol was ranked 15th nationally. 

Professor Evelyn Welch, the University’s new Vice-Chancellor and President, said: “Bristol’s impressive rise in the Times Higher World Rankings is testimony to our amazing staff and students and the difference they make in the world.

“I am very proud to have joined a world-leading University that uses our remarkable research outputs and teaching prowess to serve the city of Bristol and beyond at a global level.
