Bristol freshers head to Mongolia in a Popemobile for charity rally

10,000 miles through 17 countries

Two Bristol first years have set off on an epic 10,000 mile pan continental journey from Britain to Mongolia- and they’re doing it all in a 25 year old Rover Metro.

Freshers Tom Wheeler and Finlay Thomson have been joined by their friend Harry Donald in a bid to travel through 17 countries in an unspecified number of days as part of an effort to raise £1,500 for charity.

Having set off on the 17th July, the intrepid trio have already made their way over the Channel, past Dunkirk, through central and Eastern Europe into northern Turkey and now Azerbaijan which they are currently crossing.

The first few hundred pounds raised will go to Cool Earth as the designated charity of the rally, and everything afterwards will go to Crisis. They are currently on £1,260 but are hoping to now double that.

So keen are the boys to raise donations for their philanthropic enterprise that they’ve pledged to write a postcard for everyone who contributes as “If that doesn’t tickle your fancy we’re not quite sure what will”.
