Brand new ‘puppy room’ fully booked ahead of arrival on campus next week

If you’ve not already got a place, too bad

Stress levels at Bristol must be at an all-time high, as a specifically-designed “puppy room” meant to help alleviate stress has been fully booked out ahead of its arrival on campus next week.

The event will take place on the 18th May, with puppies “rotated” throughout the day. Around 600 students will get an opportunity to chill out with the adorable pups, with only 15 students allowed in the room at any one time to ensure the puppies don’t get agitated.

Could they be the key to that First?

The puppy room’s introduction follows research in Japan that suggested cute animals can help improve concentration levels and even performance.

Jo Woods, Union Affairs Officer at the SU, said: “While I’m more of a cat person myself, I’m really excited the university is providing this for students. It’s really important to do fun and different things to de-stress during exams and cuddling a puppy is a perfect way to release some endorphins.”

The SU – suddenly full of bright ideas?

The dogs will be brought in to visit by local dog breeders, trainers and owners.

Sarah Knox, Community Fundraiser for Guide Dogs, said: “Guide dogs are most pleased to be able to work with the University of Bristol and allow students the chance to de-stress at this busy exam time. We are sure we will meet lots of students who miss their own pet dogs whilst away at university.

“I would like to say a big thank you to the university for their interest in our charity and also our volunteers who I am sure will create a wonderful experience for the students.”

I missed out, but at least I have Zeus to keep me company

Students lucky enough to get a place in the puppy room will be asked to make a minimum donation of £2 to Guide Dogs For The Blind as part of the event.
