Bristol brainboxes keep University Challenge dream alive

Brookes didn’t stand a chance

Bristol’s University Challenge campaign bounced back from their previous defeat to Liverpool this week, with a comprehensive win against Oxford Brookes.

Bristol led the way throughout the show and tore the “other Oxford uni” apart, winning by 150 points to a measly 85.

It was a comprehensive win

On the Bristol team were Lewis Rendell (Maths), Benjamin Moon (PhD Geologist), captain Anastasia Reynolds (Czech and Russian), and Miles Coleman (Spanish and Portuguese).

Questions ranging from Organic Chemistry to American Presidential Family Trees were on the agenda and Bristol consistently came out on top, with Maths student Lewis Rendell being the star performer.

Star boffin Lewis Rendell – his smile says it all

Having lost to Liverpool in the previous round, Bristol had to win to ensure they remained in the prestigious competition. However they will also need to win against their next opponents in order to progress to the semi-finals.

Bristol has sadly never won the prized University Challenge crown, or even reached the final, despite the show running since 1963.

Captain Anastasia Reynolds will need another top performance from her clearly talented team

The pressure is really on now, but 2015 could still be the year…
