Topless ‘Free Nipple’ protesters don’t even get their nipples out

Girls and boys went topless on campus today to overturn the stigma attached to women’s breasts.

The brave students were filming a feature program to promote the Free The Nipple campaign with UBTV.

Students stripped off outside the Victoria Rooms to prove that breasts are pretty normal

The students posed topless in front of the infamous ASS Library and other uni hubs in a bid to prove that there’s nothing weird or shameful about a woman’s nipples, even though they kept their nipples covered up the whole time.

They were armed with boob-shaped balloons, lots of pictures of nipples and a huge ‘Free The Nipple’ banner. They also interviewed passers-by and got them to flash their nips for the camera.

“I wouldn’t feel comfortable going topless outside.”

The campaigners got a brilliantly strong response from almost everyone who saw them on campus. Lots of students were really keen to talk about their experiences with censored and stigmatised nipples on camera.

One female student said: “I wouldn’t feel comfortable going topless outside. There’s so much stigma attached to women’s nipples, they’re so sexualised.”

Another student said: “The ISIS beheadings aren’t censored on YouTube, but women’s nipples are censored all over the internet and they’re completely natural.

“Instagram removes pictures with female nipples and blocks people’s accounts if they post them. It’s ridiculous.”

“I’m not offended by you being topless. I’m just curious.”

A female professor told the topless students: “I’m not offended by you being topless, I’m just curious. I wouldn’t do it at the university myself, in a professional capacity, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.”

Felix, a male student, said: “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with topless women. I wouldn’t find it offensive if you were topless on the street.

“I’d like it.”

At one point, uni security arrived and tried to ask the campaigners what they were doing – but they awkwardly drove off after seeing all the pictures of boobs.

See all the pictures (but none of the nipples) below. UBTV’s video of the protest will be available to view next week.
