Campaign Elections Imogen Palmer Retweet stephen fry Tweet UBU Union Affairs video

King of Twitter Stephen Fry has waded into the UBU elections by retweeting Imogen Palmer’s Love Actually-inspired campaign video.

Writing, “Student life has really changed from my day…” Fry shared the video with his 6.69 million followers earlier this morning. Within three hours, his tweet had already gotten over 100 favourites and 50 retweets, and the video had gained an extra 2,000 views.

Imogen Palmer, the current VP Activities, is running for Union Affairs next year.  Her campaign video is a parody of THAT Keira Knightley/Andrew Lincoln scene in Love Actually.

Pretending to be a carol singer, she knocks on a friend’s door, and uses placards to present her manifesto and plead for votes.  In addition to featuring Imogen, the video also stars students Rosie Stanley, Polly Adams and Stephen Hartill.

Stephen Fry retweets are the microblogging equivalent of a knighthood for Twitter users.  Imo delightedly replied, “Thank you so much for the tweet!”

But is her video really the best?  Check out the competition and vote for your favourite:

Jo Woods – Union Affairs

Jo has been doling out homemade cupcakes on Woodland Road every day. Her video takes inspiration from both Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Robin Thicke’s love of prominent hashtags.

Celebrity most likely to share it on Twitter Andrew Lloyd-Webber (92,800 followers)

Alex Bradbrook – Academic Experience

Alex has been performing his specially-designed election dance to win your vote and is probably the first candidate to ever look to Eurovision songs from 2010 for inspiration.

Celebrity most likely to share it on Twitter Graham Norton (697,000 followers)

Sophie Mew – Academic Experience

Sophie’s gotten her catchphrase, ‘UBUneedsMew’ trending and, based on this video, is a big fan of post-it notes and office supplies. David Brent would approve.

Celebrity most likely to share it on Twitter Ricky Gervais (5.71m followers)

Isla Stewart – Academic Experience

Isla’s also battling it out for this role.  She winks for your vote in this short video. In a fun way though, not an Anne Robinson way.

Celebrity most likely to share it on Twitter We’d say Anne Robinson but she’s not on Twitter…does Davina McCall wink? (1.98m followers)

Alice Phillips – Equality, Liberation & Access

Alice has composed a little ukelele rhyme to get the edge.

Celebrity most likely to share it on Twitter Ukelele lover Amanda Palmer (999,000 followers)

Tom Phipps – Student Living

Despite the campaign slogan ‘Phipps Don’t Lie’, Tom goes for a Hanson soundtrack in his campaign video. Opportunity missed surely?
