How to spot a Londoner

Will Disney gives his advice on how to spot a Londoner

| UPDATED

As they form the majority of the Bristol student body, the Tab has created a comprehensive guide on how to spot this group of students:

Attire

The dress-code for Londoners is hard to miss. Often found wearing a pair of fine cut chinos and smart boat shoes to match. This may be accompanied by a tailored-fit Barbour jacket (yes, in London, this is possible). For the girls, the Mulberry or Gucci handbag picked up in Oxford Street sales is difficult to look beyond.  Don’t be surprised if you find them wearing sunglasses despite the inappropriate weather or parading overpriced designer gear for accessories. Lifestyle

‘£3.50 for a Jägerbomb!? What a bargain!’ Ahh yes, as Londoners descend upon the West Country they find living costs significantly reduced and they are finally able to splash out their parents’ cash. Eating lunch out on a regular basis or purchasing rounds of drinks on nights out may attract you to befriend them – however, this will not last. Soon the Monaco-esque lifestyle hits these students as they find themselves in significant debt and unsociable.

The Essentials to Being a Londoner

Company

In the animal kingdom, it has always been said there is safety in numbers. For Londoners, this is no different. Finding it difficult to converse with students north of Harrow, Londoner’s friendship groups often consist of their own kind – and Bristol University provides the perfect breeding ground.

Attitude

Indeed, Londoners think it fitting to remind the rest of the student body how great London is and why it is better than any other city. I mean, their night outs are (apparently) so great despite costing a minimum of £50. Moreover, in their closely-orientated group, they seem it fitting to speak incredibly loud to ensure that everyone around them knows how great the London life is, asserting their non-existent dominance.

Accent

Perhaps the most difficult characteristic to find in a Londoner due to the variety. Nonetheless, following several months of training, it becomes easy to pick out the North from the South and the West from the East. As a general rule, if you overhear a student speaking the Queen’s English, it is likely they are from London. Anything else, just assume they are either south London; or, God-forbid, Northern.
