League Decider: Basketball Bristol Men’s 1sts vs Southampton Men’s 1sts

As a fascinating season of men’s basketball finishes on Wednesday, why don’t you come down and see if the Bristol Boys can win the league in the all-important deciding match against Southampton?

Wednesday will see the top two teams in Western 2A competing to be promoted to Western 1A.; Southampton and of course Bristol. With Bristol having lost to Southampton in the away fixture last term, a win of more than 8 points is needed to secure promotion for the home team. Bristol will be led out by Captain Paddy Lloyd, number 7, who has led the team to 4 50+ point wins in the last 4 matches.

Come and watch the boys on Wednesday; regardless of the result it promises to be an excellent and fiercely fought spectacle

The Tab’s Rising star (https://thetab.com/uk/bristol/2013/12/06/rising-stars/) Theo Spyrides, number 4, is one to watch as the starting point guard, the player who controls the tempo of the game and decides which set offense should be run. Number 13, Tom Lawrence, the starting centre is a defensive anchor and shares the ball on the offensive end of the court to make him a playmaker unparalleled by any of the other forwards.

Bristol have shown this season they have both the team ethic and the exceptional individuals required of a table topping team

Leading scorer James Throup, number 10, is difficult to defend when going to the basket, favouring dunks, and will be guaranteed a highlight play each game. Head coach Roy Owen has been rigorously preparing his team for this all important match for the best part of a season, and will be on the sideline calling the shots all game.

Can James Throup finish his exceptional season of scoring in style?

With the teams so evenly matched it could well go down to the final buzzer. Rally up some friends and come down to the Centre for Sport, Exercise and Health on Tyndale’s avenue (Above the gym) and offer your support for what will be one of the most competitive matches of sport you will see this year!

The destination of the title could be determined by the finest of margins, and in the dying seconds of the game- don’t miss it!
