Review: Po Na Na

Nights out at Po Na Na Bristol are always a good laugh. Located opposite Lizard Lounge and Bunker on the Triangle, this popular, atmospheric club provides a very entertaining night out.

There’s an interesting mixture of music, appealing to fans of multiple genres: Indie, Funk, Hip-Hop, as well as the cheesy dance tunes that everybody loves (although not as painfully cheesy as Lizard Lounge). The design of the club is pretty interesting – it’s got an exotic feel with its gold walls and luxurious seating areas – and there’s usually a really fun atmosphere. There’s a cool sofa area at the back of the dance floor if you want to take some time out.

If you’re interested in holding a special celebratory party on the Triangle, then check out Po Na Na’s first-class VIP area. Unlike certain other clubs (ahem…Bunker), the VIP-only rule is actually enforced here. The VIP zone is located a fair distance from the dance floor behind some curtains, so you’re able to have a good chat with your mates without being drowned out by the music. Crucially, though, you don’t lose that party atmosphere. The staff are very polite and will ensure you’ll have a great time.

There’s a broad variety of shots and mixers on offer. Although some of the drinks are a bit on the expensive side, there are some cheap deals on offer on student nights (Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays (starting 26^th February) and Thursdays), with cocktails, shark buckets and shooters available at reasonable prices. There’s a small smoking area round the back, with benches to sit on and relax.

The only significant downside is it’s a very small club, meaning that when it gets really busy, the dance floor, the bar and the smoking area can get extremely crowded. Nevertheless, this won’t stop you from enjoying yourself.

All in all, this is a gem of a nightclub – good atmosphere, no crowd trouble, polite staff, a great VIP area and a decent range of music.
