UWE Hit Bullseye

Bristol humbled in inaugural Varsity darts match 6-1

Considering their society (BUDS) has only been in existence for a few months, Bristol were always going to be underdogs in this Varsity match-up.

Against an experienced UWE team, only one team member managed to win a match in last Friday’s event.

Riley’s was packed full of noisy Bristol supporters, but UWE player, Frances Bennett, was unfazed. “We’re used to this sort of occasion”. Sure enough, the chanting didn’t seem to affect them.

Seven matches were played, each consisting of three rounds. Despite a spirited performance from BUDS, led by their captain, Alex Lyne, UWE won six out of seven.

Tom Dawe managed to win his game for Bristol, but Ed Brightwell, James Johnstone, Will Willis, Alex Lyne, Brad Beadle and Dan Parcell were all unsuccessful.

After the event, UWE Captain, Ollie Groom, commented “I couldn’t be happier with our team’s performance. It’s our best display of the last year”.

Alex Lyne put the defeat down to a lack of experience, but said “he was proud of his team”.
