Varsity 2013: Bullets Shoot Cuda Down

UWE gain the upper hand in this year’s Varsity battle with a disciplined performance against the Cuda

UWE Bullets drew first blood in this year’s Varsity battle, with a 26-6 victory against Bristol Barracuda in a game dominated by defence.

The game was decided as early as the first quarter, with the Bullets scoring three unanswered touchdowns. Incredibly, both defences then took hold of the game ensuring no further points were scored until the fourth quarter.

Although the Cuda were able to reply with a score of their own, courtesy of Toby Rickards, there was no time left for an attempt at a comeback.

The result means Bullets have maintained their 100% record in Varsity matches against the Barracuda, a record which now stretches back four years.

Bullets running back Jack Austin was one of the few highlights of a game which was often frustrating to watch and finished the game with two touchdowns.

Varsity attention now turns to next month’s Fight Night at Broad Plains Boxing Club. Tickets are already on sale through the Student Union.
