Beauty on a Budget: Eyebrow Wax

Our latest budget find is an eyebrow wax without the agony!

Strip Chocolate Wax Bar

Waxing. Even the mention of it sets my teeth on edge and if I’m honest I try to avoid it at all costs.

But shaving and plucking tends to be very awkward and has the lasting power of about a week before you’re a hairy Mary once more.

I’ve always been a plucker when it comes to eyebrows. It’s a dodgy routine though with the risk of over-plucking and of course the all too familiar horror story of ‘pluck one hair and three more come to its funeral.’

So you can imagine my delight when I was offered 20% off my next waxing that promised a ‘virtually pain free’ experience.

So where is this miracle location? Well, blink and you miss it. Hidden at the back of Harvey Nichols Bristol is the Strip, offering both tanning and waxing treatments.

Entering Harvey Nichols is always an intimidating experience (especially when you’re a student!) and combining that with the fact you’re going for a wax may make you run for the hills.

However approaching the strip I was met by my lovely Waxing lady Nicole, who was extremely friendly and even went to the lengths of shaking my hand!

This was followed by the obligatory form filling out; no I’m not pregnant, no I haven’t had any allergic reactions recently, no I’ve not been convicted of any felonies etc.

Lovely Nicole then led me down to the treatment room. ‘You’ll be in the Chocolate waxing room today.’ She told no lies. It looked as though Willy Wonka had paid a visit.

She wasted no time and got down to waxing my bushman eyebrows after consulting me on what brow look I was going for.

The experience, as promised, was pain-free. She gave me the usual sales jargon about how the wax would calm my skin and she wasn’t kidding!

The chocolate wax left my brows wonderfully shaped and without the give-away redness that waxing is famous for. She even did me courtesy of pencilling in my eyebrows.

Being in Harvey Nichols I was expecting to get what I paid for and with it being such a good service, what I paid should surely have been quite a lot.

To my surprise my eyebrow wax came in at £12.80 with my 20% off voucher. A little above the average £10 price of your basic salon but this is Harvey Nichols darling and what’s an extra £2 when you go home sting-free and without the tell-tale redness?

I would like to give the Strip 4 stars for their wonderful service and one of the best eyebrow waxes I’ve had in years.

The only down side is the high price, and without my voucher I’ll have to save for a while before I go back. If you want to get your hands on a voucher I recommend hanging around the Strip salon area of Harvey Nics looking interested.

Prepare to do some serious loitering!
