What’s the toughest eating challenge in the North?

The North is a battleground of the best universities in the country, home to the best nightlife, the most attractive people and the most charming accents.

But within the North there is a divide: which city is the best? Is it Leeds? Is it Manchester? Or is it Sheffield or Liverpool?

We found out by finding the toughest eating challenges in each city.

Leeds

Triple Chili Challenge

The Triple Chili Challenge is not for the fainthearted with three courses to devour within 10 minutes. The record in Leeds is three minutes 17 seconds. Tip: Don’t start with the chips.

Ingredients: One jalapeño covered burger, one jalapeño-covered hot dog and a plate of jalapeño-covered fries.

Time limit: 10 minutes.

Mojo

Mad Dog Challenge

Not all eating challenges are a volume game, Mojo’s Mad Dog challenge is so intense you have to sign a disclaimer before taking part.

Brave challengers must strip the chicken wings to the bone in less than five minutes without taking a drink, wiping your face or leaving the table. Don’t worry, you get latex gloves to protect your skin.

Ingredients: Chicken wings and Mojo’s Mad Dog sauce.

Time limit: Five minutes.

Smoke Barbecue

Smoke’s Man Vs. Food Challenge

With founders Sean Gregory and Duka Nagy travelling to Texas to experience BBQ in its heartland, Smoke Barbecue’s one man platter is an extraordinary challenge.

Finish the challenge within the time limit and you’ll get the meal half price. Beat the house champion and you’ll get it for free and get your place on the wall of fame.

Ingredients: Burger stacked high with four beef patties, smoked brisket, pulled pork, cheese and onion rings, fries, a jar of slaw, corn bread muffin and two pints of milk shake.

Time limit: 30 minutes.

Solita

Challenge 1: Wheel Burger

Solita’s Wheel Burger is so intense, you need six hungry people to complete the 8,000 calorie challenge.

Ingredients: One kilogram of steak patty, 12 cheese slices, eight bacon rashes and a litre of creamy sauce sandwiched between a super-sized sesame bun.

Time limit: As long as it takes.

Challenge 2: The Widowmaker

If you don’t fancy making your way through over a kilo of burger, then the Widowmaker might be for you.

Ingredients: 24 inches of all-beef hotdog, smoked brisket chilli, chow chow slaw, deep fried jalapeños, Monterey Jack cheese, sour cream, fried bacon and ball park mustard.

Time limit: As long as it takes.

El Capo

El Capo’s Giant Burrito

Burritos are always filling let alone when they’re 24-inches long and filled with three types of meat.

Ingredients: 24-inch burrito, filled with pork carnitas, pulled beef, chicken, kale and mushroom manchego or chipotle fish and oozing with salsa and cheese.

Time limit: As long as it takes.

Liverpool

Rack and Dollar

Rack and Dollar on Berry Street runs a different eating challenge for each day of the week, including an unlimited rib day on Monday. Challengers are tasked with eating as many ribs as they can handle.

The restaurant prides itself on its challenges so much so they have a wall of fame for winners and a wall of shame for people who don’t manage it.

Tuesday’s challenge: The 54321 burger

Ingredients: Five burgers, four toppings, three cheeses, two salads and one bun.

Time limit: As long as it takes.

Sunday’s challenge: Nachos

Ingredients: Five pounds of nachos, one with cheese, one with guacamole, one with salsa, one with sour cream and one with jalapeños.

Time limit: As long as it takes.
