Northern nights out are so much better than anything in the South

London has nothing on the North

| UPDATED

Going out in London or your hometown seemed fun when you were 18. Then you moved up North for uni and realised you’ve been missing out on a lot.

It’s so much cheaper

Cost is the most obvious reason, going out in the North means you won’t be paying silly money for a drink. Say hello to pints for £2.50, in London you couldn’t even get a squash for that price.

The solidarity you feel with the other girls not wearing tights

Nothing quite beats the feeling of the northern wind in-between your shins as you and the gals huddle like penguins together in a queue for the club. Your shared respect for one another as you look up and down at the girls who refused to brave it, standing smugly in their 60 deniers. Real women go tight-less.

The taxi drivers are generous and you won’t get ripped off

Uber might not of made it to every Northern city, but who cares when the taxis are nearly as cheap. You can usually catch a taxi from the outskirts of a northern city centre for under a tenner. Sometimes they’ll even drop you home if you don’t have enough for the whole fare.

‘Sorry mate, I’ve only got £3’

The afterparties are better

From the cellars in Fallowfields to the terraces of Hyde Park. The North is the home of afterparties and nobody from Bristol will knock us off of the top.

Dressing up is celebrated

Put effort into dressing up in London and you’ll get laughed out of the pub. You can walk around Liverpool in your curlers and with your best shirt on and it’s embraced. Coats and flats are for the weak.

But equally, dressing down is also encouraged

You won’t find anyone in the South with your taste in trainers or shirts. You wear the underdressed look well and you know how to get noticed without trying too hard.

No-one orders bottle service

Only Geordie Shore do that.

Bouncers up North will actually smile at you

The locals are friendly

Go to the bar at Leadmill in Sheffield, Level in Liverpool, or Sankeys in Manchester and you’ll end up in a chat with a complete stranger, it won’t feel weird, it won’t feel letchy, everyone’s there enjoying themselves.

The bouncers are friendly too (well most)

Queue for a club down South and you will be vilified by the bouncers for looking shifty. Up North, you know their name and the name of their first-born child.

All the clubs are close together

Cities in the North aren’t actually that big, so if one club is dull you can quickly move onto the next.

The locals are as friendly as they come

Constant madness and better DJs

Unlike the South, there is something going on every night of the week and you have the best DJs in the country at your fingertips.

All of the North’s major cities are within an hour of each other

Bored of Leeds? Go to Manchester. Bored of Sheffield? Go to Liverpool. Jump on the train and you’ll never run out options.

You’ll never be short of hangover food the next day
