Meet the inventor of the Kettle Kup: Bianca Polizzi

Her idea is being fought over by international investors

| UPDATED

Bianca Polizzi won Pot Noodle’s national competition last week with her invention, the Kettle Kup.

Bianca isn’t an engineer or a designer. After moving around the world with her Dad’s job as a journalist the young inventor settled into a Languages degree at Bath.

The second year’s fame came from her invention, the Kettle Kup, a wireless, mini rechargeable kettle which you can carry with you anywhere.

It is being developed in collaboration with a team of engineers who are helping Bianca create a prototype.

Bianca is in her second year at Bath

Zimbabwe born Bianca thought of her portable kettle idea the morning after a big night out.

Bianca battled through a day of lectures and seminars, because she doesn’t like to skip any lectures.

“I’d only had a couple of hours sleep and I go to every single lecture, it doesn’t matter how tired I am.

“I was having a bad day when I got the idea. I’d been out late the night before and overslept.

“I had to rush to catch my bus and I didn’t have time for a coffee.

“On campus I spent over six pounds on cappuccinos and that’s when it hit me. The Kettle Kup was born.”

Bianca beat entries from across the country to win the competition.

The winner was decided on Twitter and voters were encouraged to retweet their favourite time-saving idea. The Bath second year won with a resounding 473 retweets.

Bianca is extremely close with her family. Both her family and friends supported her throughout the competition.

“I was born in Zimbabwe, we moved to the Republic of Ireland, then Sicily, then France.

“We left Ireland because of the rain so my parents booked a one way trip to Sicily and then I came to England five years ago.”

“My family supported me the whole way through the competition, they were quite embarrassing, they started following all of my friends on Twitter.

“My parents are really chilled and my friends just don’t really believe I won.”

Despite coming up with the idea after a night out in Bath, Bianca is modest in her achievements.

“I don’t think it was a typical celebration, I was in my reindeer onesie when I got the call and then I was bouncing off of the walls.

“My housemate kindly put a video of me in my onesie going mad on her Snapchat story.

“Then we went to get a McFlurry, but then when we got to McDonald’s and there wasn’t a drive thru and they had run out of ice cream. So we had to drive to another one and it took 50 minutes, so basically all I did was eat a Crunchie McFlurry.”

Pot Noodle sent Bianca a Noodvamp

Since winning Pot Noodle’s ‘You Can Make It’ competition Bianca spent 12 hours shooting a video in London to promote her victory.

She said: “They put me up in a hotel on the Thursday before the video shoot, filming was 12 hours and it was so much fun. I’m not much of an actor and I had three scripts to learn.

“A hair and beauty girl followed me around all day, but what really blew my mind was this guy there called George, I didn’t know what he was doing there, but in between a take he brought me a bottle of water and he took the lid off of it for me. I died.”

Bianca came up with the best time-saving idea

The languages second year is heading to Las Vegas in January to meet other inventors and to show potential investors and the media the Kettle Kup.

“We will have to wait and see what happens, we need to see who is interested in producing it.

“I feel like it’s going to be great. I don’t see why it won’t be produced, because we live in Britain and it’s going to get cold.

Bianca is excited to be travelling to the USA to satisfy her appetite for travelling, but is conscious of the essays she has due the day she gets back.
