An extensive search was carried out to try and find the missing young woman
A female diver was reported missing on the evening of Tuesday 23 July 2024, after failing to surface following a dive off Old Harry Rocks, Dorset.
A major search operation was carried out after the report during the evening of Tuesday 23rd July 2024, and throughout Wednesday 24th July 2024 by emergency services. The HM Coastguard and RNLI, alongside a police dive team from Avon and Somerset Police, aided with the search in the area where the diver was last seen. Sadly, the diver has still not been located. The diver has now been named as a 20-year-old female form Poole, Emily Sherwin.
Emily’s family has issued the following statement to Poole Police: “We are heartbroken at the loss of Emily but externally grateful for the 20 wonderful years we had with her, and finding comfort in the fact that she was doing something she loved.
“Emily was unique: high-spirited, outgoing, loving and loyal. She lit up every room. Emily adored the sea and loved sailing and diving. She was looking forward to an exciting career in marine conversion.” In their statement, Emily’s family expressed their gratitude to everyone involved in the attempts to find Emily: “The search operation was a testimony to the impact she had upon everyone she met and the love we all share for her.
Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Vallins of Dorset Police said, the emergency services and the volunteers from the community had “worked tirelessly in the search efforts. “While the dive search activity has now ceased, we will continue to carry out enquiries and remain committed to exploring every available line of enquiry to locate Emily.”
Dorset Police are still urging anyone with relevant information towards this case to come forward.
