Bournemouth gym evacuated after member tests positive for coronavirus

There are now 35 cases confirmed in the southwest

Bournemouth Coronavirus covid-19

A gym in Bournemouth was evacuated yesterday after it was confirmed a member had been diagnosed with coronavirus.

Members of The Gym in Poole received an email making them aware another member had been diagnosed with coronavirus late yesterday afternoon.

“I’d been in there about 10 minutes when a member of staff came up to me and my friend and said ‘really sorry but we’re going to have to evacuate. We’ve just had a call from management to say there’s a situation and everyone needs to get out immediately’,” a member told The Bournemouth Tab. “As we walked across the gym floor I joked and said ‘Coronavirus is it?’. He just looked at me and said ‘yes’.”

Public Health England confirmed earlier today that there are two cases of Covid-19 in the Bournemouth area. The first confirmed cases of coronavirus within the Bournemouth area brings the total number in the U.K. to 273 and 35 in the southwest.

The gym was evacuated and immediately closed when management became aware of the new diagnosis. The gym will not be reopening until it has undergone a deep clean.

The infected member last attended the gym on Friday and the email has not advised that anyone needs to self isolate at this time.

According to recent updates from The Bournemouth Echo, the gym is currently being deep cleaned. A reporter visited the gym this morning and confirmed it was closed.
