A Bournemouth student has been jailed for five years on paedophile charges

1,678 images of children were found on his laptop

Joshua Perreau, a BU film student, has admitted in court to making and distributing indecent images of children and possession of extreme pornography.

He was arrested stepping off the train on his return to BU in April after American officers had handed his information over to British police.

1,687 indecent images of children were found on his laptop and a video of Perrau filming himself sexually assaulting a 5-year-old was found on his phone. Many of his crimes were committed whilst visiting a girlfriend in Skegness and others whilst he was living in Leicestershire.

Perrau has been jailed for five years and placed on the sex offenders' register for life for the crimes he committed between December 2014 and April 2018.

He was described in court as "a devious monster" and Perreau said he did not realise what he had been doing was so serious.

Jacob Hallam QC, passing sentence, told him: “You developed what can only be described as an obsession with pornography. You took images for your own sexual gratification and in due course they were for the sexual gratification of others. The children you made your victims were in many ways the most vulnerable they could be.

"They were far, far too young to say no and far too young to understand the depravity of what you were doing.

"It is profoundly troubling what is said in your probation report which is you that said that if they didn’t look upset it was alright. How you could possibly think that the children were not distressed is beyond comprehension."
