Everywhere else you could have gone for the same price as your train ticket out of Bournemouth
It’s cheaper to get to Poland than Birmingham
With reading week next week and Christmas fast approaching, it's time to pack up your stuff and travel home for some well deserved relaxation and decent food.
If it hasn't already become very clear though, travelling in and out of our beloved seaside town isn't all that cheap. Here's exactly where you could travel to, for the same price as a ticket out of Bournemouth train station.
Malta, Mediterranean
The beautiful Malta, known for its historical sites and temples, can be travelled to from Bournemouth airport with Ryanair for just £25.
That's just £3 more than a train ticket from Bournemouth to Portsmouth.
Krakow, Poland
Krakow in Poland is a popular tourist destination because of its links to Polish history. Once there you can visit its iconic square, Schindler's Factory, the salt mines, castles, the cathedral, and it's just a short trip from Auschwitz.
Ryanair will fly you there from Bournemouth airport – on average for £85. That's similar to getting a single train ticket to Cornwall or Birmingham which on average cost around £90.
And that's only an average. More advance, off peak flights to Krakow cost as little as £27.
Faro, Portugal
Yes, you can literally get to the Algarve for £25. It costs double that on average to get to Kent, London or Cardiff on the train. So, if you're sat thinking you'd rather take yourself and a mate to Portugal, go ahead.
Barcelona, Spain
Bournemouth to Brighton for £20? Bargain, right? WRONG. For just a fiver more you can get to Barcelona. I'm packing my bags right now.
Another one with Ryanair from just £25. See you there.
Gran Canaria, Canary Islands
A little bit more expensive, flights here cost on average around £80. But, if you don't mind waiting till Easter for your trip, you can get to this lovely island for £53. That's only a tenner more than the average price of a ticket to Oxford, Surrey or Bristol. I know where I'd rather be.
Tenerife, Canary Islands
A classic holiday destination which can be reached for just £32 with Ryanair. I'm honestly thinking of never going home ever again?
Geneva, Switzerland
It's not just Ryanair btw, EasyJet will fly you from Bournemouth to Geneva for just £22.50. It costs about £120 to get to Manchester on the train – all of your flatmates could have reading week in Geneva for cheaper. Let that sink in.
That's just a few of the places that you go. I'm never getting a train ever again.
