Why are so many people against going out in Bournemouth on a Saturday?
It’s wild
Before I arrived at uni my typical going out nights were Fridays and Saturdays. Occasionally I’d do a student night if I was willing to accept my mum’s disapproving looks when I said I didn’t think I was going to make it to college.
Then I came to BU and I was immediately told, if not even warned, to never go out on a Saturday night. It’s so expensive! You don’t want to go out with the locals. All stags and hens, no students.
This to me sounded so weird. Coming from a city you can’t really tell who’s local and who’s a student when there’s thousands of people in a club. Plus before uni I didn’t really know what a student looked like and you don’t get many hen parties in Propaganda Birmingham tbf.
As a first year though, you do as you’re told.
It was only when me and my housemate ventured onto the mean streets of Bournemouth on a Saturday night that we realised how wrong everyone is. Bournemouth on a Saturday is wild.
Once you’ve been here a while you start to believe that Bournemouth is all old people or students, nothing in between. That’s because you’ve never been out on a Saturday- that’s when they all appear.
Granted, it is more expensive than weekdays but, tag onto a hen do or stag do and that’s your night paid for. Me and my housemate went out to Revs, ended up being taken to Walkabout and then onto a VIP table in Cameo with drinks all night. Sorted. Me and the same housemate also went to a house party, drank two bottles of Lambrini before having the ‘Cameo? Cameo.’ conversation. We’re the epitome of class.
My house now has a collection of ‘L’ plates, shot glass necklaces and masks, just in case we should ever need a convincing hen do costume.
If that fails, stick on a birthday badge. Classic.
Whether or not you manage to avoid spending an arm and a leg, weekends are still the best nights of the week. It’s busier, different people are out, and idk it just feels different to a student night. You should try it.
