Bournemouth is the sixth least affordable place for graduates in the UK

London topped the charts in new findings

In research posted by Pareto, Bournemouth has been named as the sixth most expensive place in the UK for it’s graduates.

The new study looked at 30 university towns and cities across the UK and weighed up the average salary of the area and typical rent of a two bed flat.

It also compared the costs of goods and services with the prices of those in the capital, working out how much cheaper or more expensive they were per £100 spent in London.

These findings were then converted into a ‘Cost of Living’ score with London having the base score of 100.

The top 10 least affordable places were as follows:

Belfast topped the charts of places that were most affordable with Leeds and Cardiff just missing out on the top spot.

The Head of the Candidate Experience at Pareto, Suzie Berry, said: “The affordability of the capital cities of Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh shows that graduates needn’t head to London in search of graduate employment. Despite the lures of the South East, the prospect of more affordable living and cheaper rent can outweigh a higher wage packet.”
