BU on track for £50k Summer Ball prize
Bournemouth Uni students can be hopeful of the best Summer Ball ever this year as they lead the way in the MTV Club & Lucozade Energy ‘Pimp My Summer Ball Competition’ with over 100,000 votes.
The competition, which started on 3rd March, invites student to tweet the hash-tag #YESPimpmySummerBall followed by the name of your uni in the message, with the winning university receiving £50,000 towards their summer event.
In just over 24 hours of the competition opening almost 300,000 tweets have been registered with the hash-tag.
Bournemouth leads the way with a whopping 100,237 tweets. Kent are currently in second position, almost 20,000 votes behind with 82,100 and Reading are a distant third with 32,816.
The competition closes on the 7th April so there is still plenty of time to get involved and back Bournemouth.
SUBU have shown their support to the campaign and keen students are trying to engage celebrities to help back the cause.
A tweet which appeared to be from the Dalai Lama’s official account showed support for Bournemouth’s campaign. Although Buddhists everywhere can rest easy – the message is obviously fake, but the creative approach still earned 55 retweets for the cause!
All tweets and retweets containing the hash-tag # YESPimpmySummerBall count as a vote to the university mentioned in the comment. Mentioning another university (other than BU) will count as a vote for them, so be careful!
If BU students continue this Twitter serge we could be heading for a Summer Ball featuring a 30ft bouncy castle, 50p pints or even Beyoncé headlining (you heard it here first!). So get tweeting!
