Halls war: leave your sex positions at home

By simulating sex acts on video, are we forfeiting our right to complain about being complained about?

At the beginning of October, Bar Me and Yates hosted a battle between halls. Among other challenges like Limbo or Dance off, one of them, “Sex Positions”, involved miming as many sex positions as possible in one minute.

And the videos went online.

But is this really how we, students, want to be seen by the community?

We all know, current students or alumni, that uni life is a lot of drinking and sex. We’ve all been here and it’s part of the game, especially during freshers (that two-week period at the beginning of term that you may or may not remember).

However, as the next generation of workers – and leaders – we need to maintain a good image. Doing silly things when being drunk can happen, but you don’t have to show it to the world.

With such behaviour, can we really complain about not being listened to? Not being taken seriously by our elders? Do we really want to be seen as these stupid horny drunk young people?

It’s a very embarrassing message to send, and we might regret it later. I think we deserve better than that.

We, students, are capable of so many great achievements and we prove it at BU everyday. We can think, be creative, run projects, help each other, volunteer and have good relations with the community.

And all of that, even if we like getting smashed on Friday nights!

Please, next time, keep the sex positions for your private moments. It is unfair for students who work their asses off to see their achievements overcome by your stupidity.
