Meet Ollie Morgan, the Birmingham Uni student who just competed in the Paris 2024 Olympics
Oliver Morgan placed 12th in the men’s 200m
Popular student concerns include passing modules, staying motivated, finding the right social group. Less common student concerns include Andy Murray asking you to pose for a photograph. Oliver Morgan deals with all of the above.
As a part of the GB team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Oliver Morgan competed in the 4x100m medley relay and the 100m backstroke final, respectively finishing 4th and 8th in both competitions.
He is now returning to the University of Birmingham to complete the last year of his physical education and coaching sciences degree.

His father, Matt Morgan, told the BBC: “Once he knew he was definitely going to Paris, the university let him stop his degree until September.”
He also clarified Oliver’s next steps after uni: “He’s going to finish his last year and get it out of the way.”
Oliver’s next big event is the 2025 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships, which will be held in London in April.
This is important competition with it being main qualifier for the World Aquatics Championships that will be held in Singapore.

Explaining the importance of the competition for Ollie, Matt said: “British Champs is more nerve wracking for me than actually going to the Olympics or worlds. Because if you don’t make British champs, you don’t get there.”
Matt Morgan is very proud of his son, telling the BBC that his Olympic journey had been “amazing.”
He shared that Oliver is not afraid of the big moments: “The bigger the scene, the more he enjoys it, and that’s what makes a good athlete.”
A special moment for Oliver was meeting Andy Murray.
Murray “asked the medley relay team for a photograph”, which Oliver found “that a bit of a weird one.”
Oliver will definitely have a lot of stories to share when he trades in the goggles for stationary.
He’s made the university community proud, and everyone wishes him more success in the future!
