Meet the Birmingham student who was an extra in Bridgerton

First year UoB English and Drama student Charley Davies worked as an extra from August 2019 to January 2020 on the Bridgerton set in Bristol and Bath.

She filmed in her gap year, working as a supporting cast member whilst being involved in the television production.

And yes, it was as amazing as you could imagine.

Ever since Bridgerton was released at Christmas, everyone has been obsessed. From simping over the Duke of Hastings to laughing at Daphne’s fringe, it has become Netflix’s fifth largest original series launch ever, with over 63 million households tuning in.

The series has already been renewed for a second season, with filming taking place later this year.

“My first experience of the show was three consecutive night-shoots. We were sleeping in the day, arriving at Crowd base late afternoon for ‘breakfast’, and then eating ‘lunch’ at midnight”, Charley told The Devon Live.

Charley had to audition for her role, however as she was in her gap year, it was the perfect opportunity.

“It was magical, I hadn’t worked on a production that was so high budget which had the freedom to be so bold and have no limits with costumes and the set was incredible, being able to visit the old and gold of this country and visit those really beautiful period properties to have a taste of what life was like back in the 1800s.”

Charley is an an aspiring actor and found the opportunity to observe and be involved in the production to be a great hands-on experience.

She was inspired to see how hard-working everyone on the production is, from the actors to the crew.
