Birmingham is officially in Tier 3: Here’s what this means for students
Cases are still too high for the city to have lower restrictions
Amy MooreBirmingham has been put in Tier 3 following the easing of the lockdown on the 2nd December.
It is the strictest of the tiers and calls for pubs and restaurants to remain closed apart from delivery and takeaway.
Households will not be able to mix indoors and indoor entertainment venues will remain closed.
The rule of six still applies for outdoor public spaces like parks, as long as social distancing is followed. Whilst hospitality settings including bars, pubs and restaurants, must stay closed. However they are allowed to continue takeaways.
Gyms are allowed to reopen which is the biggest change from this lockdown, however group sessions cannot take place.
Areas can be moved to a different tier if the indicators improve, or get worse, and will be reviewed on December 16.
The news of Birmingham moving into Tier 3 comes as cases of Covid-19 have not fallen sufficiently during the current lockdown. There were 450 hospital cases of Covid this weekend – the highest since the first wave’s peak.
