Birmingham council may dim street lights to save money, which is exactly what Selly needs

The council claims it is the ‘most challenging period’

Following a budget proposal to cut Birmingham City Council spending by £86 million in the next four years it has been suggested that street lights should be dimmed over night.

A consultation regarding the 2019/20 budget will take place from the 13th November.

If the public consultation plans are approved, streetlights across Birmingham will be dimmed overnight.

This change deals a devastating blow for those in Selly Oak, where crime appears to be at an all time high. Students have suggested that putting more street lights in Selly would make the area safer. This appears to be a pipeline dream now as the council aim to dim the limited set of lights we now have.
