Armed police have raided a Birmingham flat in an operation linked to Wednesday’s terror attack in Westminster.

Armed officers stormed a second-floor flat above a row of shops on Hagley Road in Ladywood at about 23:00 GMT on Wednesday.

The operation began at around 11pm and ended at around 2am, when Hagley Road was reopened, although there is some police presence at the scene this morning

Unconfirmed reports claim a house was raided on an investigation which may be connected to the hire of a car used in the attacks, which left five dead and 40 hurt. Four people died when an attacker drove a car along a pavement in Westminster, stabbed a policeman and was shot dead by police in the grounds of Parliament.

A further 29 had been treated in hospital, with seven remaining in a critical condition.
